12 Mar Sluice Gates Overview: 920 vs 930 vs 950
The Differences Between the 920, 930, and 950 Series
Whipps, Inc. developed the 900 Series Stainless Steel Gates, which includes the 920, 930, and 950 Series sluice gates. Each series is engineered to handle increasing head pressures while maintaining reliable sealing performance and long-term durability. We are dedicated to delivering customized sluice gates that meet the specific needs of our clients. The stainless steel sluice gates offer a perfect blend of strength, durability, and efficiency, making them ideal for a wide range of flow control applications.
Stainless Steel Sluice Gates Designs
Our sluice gate designs are a cornerstone of the Whipps water control product lineup. At their core, these sluice gates share the same foundation of quality as the rest of our products. All Whipps 900 Series sluice gates are fabricated from corrosion-resistant stainless steel and designed for dependable operation in water and wastewater systems. They utilize ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW) seat and seal surfaces, which provide smooth operation, minimal leakage, and resistance to wear.
Quick Tips for the 900 Series
To help engineers select the appropriate gate, Whipps commonly applies a simple sizing guideline based on Width × Head. If the resulting value is 80 or less, the 920 Series typically provides adequate strength. Values above 80 and up to 120 generally indicate the 930 Series, while larger values or higher loading conditions may require the 950 Series heavy-duty design. This method helps ensure each installation receives the correct balance of structural capacity, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
920 Series Slide & Sluice Gates
This gate design represents the standard-duty option within the 900 Series family. It is typically used in installations where head pressures and opening sizes are moderate, making it well suited for many common water control applications. Engineers often specify the 920 Series for influent channels, smaller conduits, and treatment plant processes where reliable isolation is required without the need for heavy structural reinforcement. Despite being the standard-duty option, these sluice gates still provide the same corrosion resistance and sealing technology found throughout the Whipps stainless steel gate lineup.
930 Series Slide & Sluice Gates
Moving up in structural capacity, the 930 Series sluice gate is designed for medium-duty applications where greater loading demands are expected. This series is frequently selected for larger openings or systems with increased hydrostatic head. With additional structural reinforcement and enhanced rigidity, the 930 Series provides a balance between strength and efficiency, allowing it to handle more demanding conditions without significantly increasing equipment complexity. Many municipal wastewater treatment plants and industrial water systems rely on this series when standard-duty gates no longer provide sufficient structural margin.
950 Series Slide & Sluice Gates
For the most demanding conditions, Whipps offers the 950 Series sluice gate. Also, know as the heavy-duty configuration within the 900 Series product line. This series is engineered for large openings, high head pressures, and installations where maximum strength is required. Flood control structures, hydropower facilities, and large industrial water systems often require this level of structural integrity. The 950 Series incorporates reinforced gate construction and robust frame design to withstand significant loads while maintaining the precise sealing performance expected from Whipps equipment.
